Tank Scales

Tank Scales

Postby Mark Dodridge » Fri Mar 19, 2010 5:31 pm

Hi all,

What scale tanks would be most appropriate for 28mm? Ive spotted a 1/48 Pershing but wasnt too sure if that would fit.

Cheers

Mark,

personally I prefer 1/48 or 1/50 for the 28mm figures (mainly because they're bigger now at around 30mm-35mm or so). They are also very 'bulky'. It really depends upon the range of figures which you have. With the likes of the larger figures of Copplestone, Black Tree, Bolt Action (Warlord Games), or Renegade, the 1/48 works well. The smaller stuff such as Foundry may be suited with a smaller scale.

The unfortunate thing is that some of these larger figure ranges have a smaller scale vehicle range, so occasionally you'll find that their vehicles look too small for their own figures.

Keep an eye open for the Dinky and Corgy pre-painted metal stuff.

Cheers

Mark
The corgi 1/50th are brilliant, prepainted die cast models but only a relatively limited range. The American half tracks, shermans and German big tanks are the best, Phil and I have some if you want to see examples. Have a little care with the Corgi showcase range as they are not all to one scale or even to a specific scale. Some of them like the kubelwagon work really well, some of them like the medic's jeep are a bit small but manageable and others are much too small. I've got a Stuart from that range which drew howls of laughter at the Sunday event last month for example - to be fair justfiable laughter! :x
What make was the Pershing - I'm going for Americans as well as my Germans.
Cheers

Found another make of 1:48 vehicles - Wespe. There a bit pricey but they have a very good range of armoured cars and light vehicles in Resin
